The REOLOGIC project aims to develop an innovative system to define the evolution of the ground’s resistant properties from a new system for monitoring containment structures.
The rheology of the land’s materials causes an evolution of geomechanical characteristics of the medium that can produce an increase of stress on mass of the outside surface of a containment structure and a weaker resistant capacity. These effects are manifested in greater deformations that can exceed the admissible limits and that must be controlled throughout the work’s useful life.
The creep phenomena associated, on one hand, with the rocky mass/soil and the other, on the injection and elements that materialize this anchoring in the rock/soil itself, are responsible for a decrease in the anchoring’s resistant properties over time.
The evolution and monitoring of the resistance characteristics of the anchoring throughout its useful life are therefore necessary and must be adequately controlled based on their observable effects; in other words, from the monitoring of the deformations monitored in real time.
What is the Reologic Project About?
This new procedure consists of implementation in the works of a measurement system and high tech data capture in observation points of the containment structures (at various elevation points and anchoring heads) that enable deformation records to be available in real time. From these records, a predictive model of creep can be applied at all times to predict the future behaviour of such containment elements.
