The future is looking to the next generation of urban air mobility
Where teams compete to bring out the best new ideas for vertiports infrastructure.
The sky is the limit for the future of the next-gen of urban air mobility that can sustainably contribute to a multimodal mobility system. Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jets and Vertiports, the dedicated infrastructure to operate the jets, are critical components of this future.
eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft are a new form of sustainable transportation designed to operate from bases known as vertiports, which will serve as intermodal transportation centres for organized, efficient passenger movement.
This newborn industry will transform urban and regional mobility by providing safe, sustainable, reliable, and convenient connections within and between cities for the benefit of its citizens
Ferrovial’s plan to build vertiport networks to support the launch of zero-carbon eVTOL (electric takeoff and landing) services in Florida, the United Kingdom, and Europe is moving forward, but what exactly will these facilities look like, and how can they be built so that they are integrated seamlessly into communities and adaptable to the future of urban air mobility?
We’re introducing the Ferrovial–AECOM Vertiport Design Challenge, where teams with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and expertise – from young talents to senior industry leaders – will compete to develop the best new ideas for vertiports to serve communities and passengers for generations to come.
They aim to design infrastructure that is safe, sustainable, reliable, efficient, and easily integrated into today’s transportation intermodal mobility systems to the benefit of communities and passengers.
The Ferrovial-AECOM Vertiport Design Challenge includes two teams, each composed of 12 professional engineers, architects, designers and operations experts with diverse backgrounds from both companies to:
